Profiling – crude but effective…

Profiling will always be a crude tool, it is however effective. When profiling is conducted in the crime prevention role it is often done specifically targeting areas and ages and labelled as racist. In any counter terror operation profiling is used, it is just an unfortunate by-product of an exceptional terrorist threat. It is a sad day when the balance between freedom and security is interrupted but the consequences of a failure to properly address this terrorist threat are far worse.

Prominent Australian Muslims say their community is being unfairly targeted by law enforcement and threatened by right-wing groups, as the government’s tough new policies aimed at combating radical Islamists threaten to create a backlash.
