NCTAS-P: Raising the Standards in Canine Explosives Detection

What is NCTAS-P?

The National Canine Training and Accreditation Scheme – Private Sector (NCTAS-P) is the Home Office’s benchmark for canine detection services. It sets out the highest standards for training, welfare, and operational delivery to protect the public, venues, and events.

Early adoption and support

GSS were among the first to adopt and support NCTAS-P. From the outset, we recognised its potential to raise standards and provide clients with reassurance that canine services are independently benchmarked, credible, and effective.

Shaping the programme

Our involvement goes beyond adoption. With direct experience from within Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters (CTPHQ), we have contributed insights and constructive challenges to ensure NCTAS-P works effectively in real-world environments.

This critical perspective has helped refine the programme so it delivers value for both public and private sector clients.

Why it matters to you

Working with a provider aligned to NCTAS-P means your explosives detection capability is:

>  Benchmarked against Home Office standards

>  Delivered by accredited handlers with proven expertise

>  Compliant with best practice in safety and welfare

>  Ready to meet the demands of major venues, events, and infrastructure projects

For our clients, this is reassurance in action – confidence that their canine security is not just compliant, but market-leading.
