After 13 years and 4 tours of Afghanistan in the British Army, I was introduced to a GSS Team Leader for the Liverpool FC contract. He asked me to call into office for a chat, the first thing that struck me was how friendly everyone was and instantly I felt at ease. After spending an hour or so with Daniel, I could tell he had (has) a real passion for GSS and a vision of where he wanted to take it - I wanted to be a part of it.

I started working for GSS as a CPO for LFC in 2012.

I was given the opportunity to work in Iraq as a CPO at the British Embassy. I managed to save a little money before enquiring whether there was any chance of coming back to GSS in the UK.

In 2015, I was informed that there could be an opportunity to attend the UK’s first fully accredited General Protection dog handler course. I immediately booked myself onto the course and everything just fell in to place! Two weeks later I was sat in a classroom at Reaseheath College, learning all aspects of dog handling, training and care of a dog.

The course itself was fantastic; a lot of things that I thought I knew about were in fact incorrect. It gave me a clear and concise insight of a dogs needs and how to get the best out a working dog. I decided to purchase the dog I was paired with on the course. Renn is a 3-year-old Belgian malinois, full of life, very loyal and loves to bite things (2 TV remotes, 3 pairs of my girlfriends shoes and much to my frustration my I phone 6). It’s a learning curve for both of us and I wouldn’t change him at all.

Within 3 days of completing the course I was asked to come in to the office and was offered full time employment. I have been working with Renn now for just over a month now and I have never been happier. I know this is where I want to be and I know that the more I put in, the more I will get back. GSS offers a lot of opportunity for progression and having worked with them since 2012, I know where they started and where they are going – I’m now part of it!
